GCSE English/IELTS

hey guys, i’m gonna apply for qmul through clearing and been speaking with them for a few days now, they told me to send my qualifications that i already hold and then sent me an email asking for my ielts. i’ve never taken ielts before so i called them and asked why did they ask for it, they said there must’ve been a mistake and they’ll see if i need to take ielts for this course

the thing is i’m from a non english speaking country, but now i’m a resident of uk and i’ve been living here for about two years, i just got my indefinite leave to remain a bit early so i’m considered a home student after all. i got a 9 in gcse english so i think they would just leave the ielts thing as this should be an equivalent of ielts? i really hope anyone else got this type of situation, please let me know what happened. i’m still awaiting their reply, i’m just a bit worried and confused. thank you sm

Hi,
I have the same status as you, same GCSE grades, but I have lived here for 15 years. I applied for university this year, and I wasn't asked to do the IELTS, only to prove my status to live here and attend university (I am reapplying this year due to wanting to change courses and do a gap year). I would go off the assumption that, since you've completed your GCSEs and shown a high proficiency level, that you wouldn't need to do the IELTS assessment.
There should be some sort of document on QMUL's website about these situations, or from IELTS specifically about when an applicant would have to do the assessment.
Hope this helps!
