Advice for new OT undergraduate student

Hello ! I am starting at Teesside in September Occupational Therapy undergraduate ! Super excited but getting more nervous now! I’m a new mum and want to make something of my self , i done an access course 5 years ago which I used to apply, and got accepted ! I’m just nervous about everything and anything. I’ve done assignments before and Harvard referencing , but a few years ago worried I’ll not know what I’m doing 😞 also exams ! I struggle slightly with over panicking and I feel worrying over exams will just ruin my chances ! Hoping anyone can give me and inside to year 1 occupational therapy , preferably Teesside ? If not the subjects and topics I will learnt in my first year so I can prepare my self
Thankyou for any responses I’ll be extremely great full and maybe slightly less nervous.

Ask Teeside for a copy of this year's timetable so that you can get an idea of what you will cover in first year.

Although for a different uni, the following thread might be useful:

(I edited your thread title a little to help you get replies )

Hi Paige. We hope you're looking forward to joining our university community in September. We look forward to welcoming you onto campus and are here to help and support you.

Rest assured, it's completely normal to feel nervous and you won't be the only one. You're embarking on a new challenge so are bound to feel apprehensive.

If you head to the OT course page and click the tab that says 'course details' it will list all of the modules and subjects which you will study. I can see that the core modules for year 1 are:

An Introduction to Evidence-based Practice for Health Professionals

Facilitating Independence and Inclusivity

Lifespan, Living and Health

Occupation for Wellbeing

Professionalism for Health Professionals (Allied Health Professional Module)

You'll also receive your timetable in the coming months which will help you plan your schedule, especially if you're a new mum - congrats by the way! 😀

Head to our applicant blog The Vibe to read advice on how to prepare for the new academic year.

Also, check out the Student Minds website which gives great advice on starting university with resources including: how to cope with change, exploring your new surroundings, how to overcome homesickness, managing your workload and more.

We wish you the best of luck and start to feel more confident as time goes on. See you in September!

Thanks,
Emma.

Hi @Paigepriestbell ,

OT Student at Bradford here😆

Best of luck for your new journey of studying OT, you'll be absolutely great!! Don't worry about having come back to education after some time, you'll be supported by the academics and support staff at Teesside I assure you!

Most students will probably be in the same boat as you with nerves so try not to stress too much, though it is difficult. You'll surprise yourself with how much you can achieve, and will achieve.

Best of luck, you'll be ace 🙂
