Student finances and budgeting

Hello! I'm starting uni this september, but due to the amount of time i've been resident in the UK my student finance got rejected. I am completely on self-finance now. I come from a low-income family so my parent's contributions would be low. I want to know if a part-time job is sufficient for tuition fees and accomodation considering i'll be opting for the cheapest accomodation. I am also thinking of starting a small business which I have expertise in so that might contribute as well. I've heard cardiff is relatively cheaper. Please let me know how to budget and if this is enough.
Have you been accepted at uni on home or international fees?

home fees

home fees

So with tuition fees of £9,250 and accommodation anywhere between £5,000 to £10,000 (depending on where your uni is), you're looking at a minimum of £15k per year before living costs for food, transport, entertainment, etc. That's a lot to finance from a part-time job. If you delayed uni for a year, would you then qualify for student finance?

Hi there!

Really sorry to hear about your situation, sounds really tough.

Cardiff is really affordable as a city, as a student of 3 years now, but to echo normaw's comments above, it is still a lot of money to finance, as well as balancing with your studies.

Depending on your situation, the university does offer bursaries, which you can find at this link here. It may also be helpful to contact the university's finance support team, who may be able to give you extra advice. For Cardiff University, you can contact them at: [email protected].

It may also be worth looking into scholarships if you have not already?
