Submitted the wrong file for my final Dissertation resit

My only question is are there any options for me or is it hopeless?

I accidently submitted my draft as my final, I can no longer resubmit, as the deadline has passed.

I've messaged my tutor with the correct copy, and also commented on Turnitin with the link to the correct file, but I don't think it will work.

I haven't edited the file at all since I thought I had uploaded it. It was very last minute, so in a moment of panic I uploaded what I thought was my file, and then promptly had to give myself sometime to calm down after it all, hence not checking before time completely ran out. (I had about a minute left before deadline).

I fully recognise the fault on my part. But I am quite honestly struggling quite a bit at this revelation. Any bit of hope would be nice.

Thank you

Some students, upon realising that the deadline is almost upon them but that they're not quite finished, upload the wrong document on purpose (either an early draft or something completely different) and then "discover" the issue the next day, and then attempt to provide the "correct" document. They do so in the hope of buying themselves an extra day to finish the submission.

I'm not saying that this is what you've done (how would I know?), I'm just saying that because some students do this, universities will be very suspicious of this sort of claim. Have you checked your university's late submissions policy to see what the impact will be? How long after the deadline did you provide the correct version to your tutor?

Three hours after the posting. I didn't realise it. I wish I had checked immediately 😕

I'm not sure if I can find the late submission policy, we have mitigating circumstances - which I had taken previously but still missed out on it. I've really struggled with my dissertation, and every chance I had it didn't pass / was still very much in its draft form.

The version I sent is one my tutor has already seen - so I'm hoping he'll recognise that.

I'm just hoping I get something out of this, and I haven't wasted my three years

Thanks. The late submissions policy is normally publicly available on the university's web site (typically within the academic regulations). Which uni are you at?

Cardiff Metropolitan - Art and Design. I'll keep checking, but I believe it's what I've already gone through? I've had three attempts, last attempt was my Draft incorrect submission.

(thank you so much for the quick replies 🙂 )

Oddly, there appears to be no flexibility at all. I've seen other unis dock you X% for every hour/day late the submission is, but Cardiff Met simply say (in 4.1 Assessment Regulations):

"9.4 A student who is absent from the whole or part of a written examination or who fails to submit work for assessment by the published submission deadline shall be deemed to have failed that particular assessment element and thus the module in question. In the case of illness or other exceptional circumstances the Examination Board may grant an extension to submission dates or permit a supplementary examination to be held (see Mitigating Circumstances Procedure)."

The only wiggle room I can see is within 05.1E Mitigating Circumstances Procedure, which says:

"23. Where a claim for Mitigating Circumstances is upheld, the Mitigating Circumstances Committee shall recommend a course of action to the Examination Board. The Chair or Convener of the Committee will notify the Examination Board of the decisions and recommendations.

It is impossible to provide a definitive list of all possible recommendations, but typical examples might include:

a. to accept a late submission without penalty
b. to extend the deadline for submission
c. to reinstate the attempt of a missed assessment"

Any idea when you'll hear back from your tutor?

Yeah, that unfortunately sounds as bad as I thought it'd be.

I have depression and anxiety, said depression massively hindered the first half of my year, and I've been slowly getting better since, hence the continous retries. But I've already said as such in a Mitigating circumstances, so I don't think I'll get any wiggle room.

None at all I'm afraid, the tutors on my course are notorious for being really busy and not really getting back to you in a quick fashion (this isn't a jab, I get it) - but it means it'll be a while until they get back to me.

Thanks again for your help.

You're welcome. Good luck. :crossedf:
