Hi Everyone ! I am in Cohort 26 currently on the scheme in Barnsley. I interviewed and got offered places at both North Tyneside and Barnsley. As a student at Newcastle Uni I was set on staying in the North East however I was so impressed with the opportunity at Barnsley that I decided to move to Sheffield and take the place at Barnsley. Happy to answer any questions. I know what it feels like to be in your position good luck to everyone ! Also for anyone applying to Yorkshire region please consider Barnsley they care about the scheme so much and you get countless high level opportunities that aren’t available at every council. You can watch a video that we made recently about the scheme here ! 🙂 - worth a watch for everyone ! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kg8y8f-BPZw

How should we style the personal statement? What is important to include? Do the councils have access to our assessment centre scores? Thanks

Hi ! How many interviews does each person get ?

Hi ! This depends some people get multiple some people only get one not 100% sure how it works but I think it is based off your assessment scores and council choices. For me I was only allocated one however I received an email to say someone had dropped out of an interview place at another council so I put myself forward for that and got a second interview !

As far as I am aware councils do not get access to the assessment centre scores! I am pretty sure the personal statement is just for the councils that you get allocated an interview at to get to know you a little bit so don’t worry about it too much ! I would include info about yourself and then why you are applying to the scheme and why you want to work in Local government.

Anyone else planning to apply to Councils that they'd have to move for? There's so many to choose from and all of the information days for them are so condensed together!

Most of my applications I will have to move for as there is only 1 council listed near where I live currently, but I am using it as an opportunity to get to know somewhere new!

A question for any current NMTs/previous candidates - has anyone been allocated more than 1x London interview before? Thanks

Where did that stat come from, that's promising

On the preference form Q&A I think the facilitator mentioned that it was more like there’s 2 candidates for every place on the scheme. So half of candidates at this stage are unlikely to be offered a job?

Did anyone apply locally instead of nationally?

Did/does anyone plan to contact the councils directly with the email given with questions?

Yes, people have in the past. They did last year anyway. Only a few people get more then 1 interview though

Hi! I applied locally for Liverpool instead of nationally as I don’t plan to move away - I got through to the interview stage, so i’m currently waiting to be contacted by them to arrange a date!

That’s really exciting well done! I wonder how many candidates got through to the final stage for local council’s compared to the national councils.

Thank you! Yeah I’m not sure how it works tbh, we went through the same process alongside national applicants eg assessment centre. Did you apply nationally or locally?

I applied locally too! Yeah i saw we were up against the national candidates so surely there will be less people in the final stage in our case? At least by logic I think it makes sense as national candidates wouldn’t be able to pick our councils as one of their preferences?
