I thought it would be useful to start this thread to discuss applications!

Anybody know if pathways is as competitive as impacts?

Email impact and they can contact the council about the start date. Then follow up with your council to nudge them for the contract. But if you have an offer letter that should also work, and the estate agents will do an employer reference anyway.

It's a similar process, same stages but more planning focussed content. It had a smaller cohort but also fewer places. It's worth going for both.

I am conscious that the changes in level 7 apprenticeships may affect it going forward

The government is cutting funding for most level 7 apprenticeships for those over 22 in Jan 2026, and the pathways scheme relies on these.

I think they'd inform applicants however if this was a concern so still apply.

As planning is a major policy focus it may well be exempt from this change.

Aha well good on you for researching it already! I applied for both and had a good impression of each scheme.

Anyone else relocating and struggling to pass landlord reference checks without 3 months of pay slips and uncertain credit after being a student?

Because I’d rented as a student, I sent off a note with my bank statements saying that I’d paid rent differently than expected & my tenancy for it. I then was okay credit-wise because they were happy with my contract as proof of future income. Have you spoken to any of them to see if it’s directly an issue with your references or financial situation? Mine wanted contact details for someone from HR as proof as well, so maybe see if you can give them that as more proof?

from my very frantic search to relocate, different landlords expect different proofs and all consider their own way to be the only and best way lol. i began asking when i was looking at places, and ended up managing to secure one that was happy with only offer letter (still not got a contract….) and open banking where they looked through my accounts and saw i had been comfortable paying my student rent. from what i found it was better to ask before what they would accept and i used that to narrow down my choices but id say there’s so many different things you could offer if you’re able and if you’re set on one place that hopefully they’ll allow one - open banking, reference from a student landlord, guarantor etc.

They say around 30% is a good max target (of gross income) spent on rent, or 50% on needs including bills, food, phone bills etc.
