They say around 30% is a good max target (of gross income) spent on rent, or 50% on needs including bills, food, phone bills etc.

Were it so easy haha. Looking for my own place so rent seems to be around the 800 mark for something that's not a quarter of a mouldy basement

True. I'm in the midlands so it's easier (although have gone for a high quality HMO for the short term)

Has anyone else not received their contract or start date yet? I have an offer from Greenwich council and I haven’t received a reply to my emails since mid-July - I know the person in charge is currently on annual leave but still a bit worried about the lack of communication and whether my references are okay and stuff

i think if you’re in london it’s sadly normal for anything between 30-50% of your income to go to rent. my renting experience so far has taught me to spend that extra bit for something nicer!!

I'll keep that in mind, definitely looks like another 150ish gets something considerably nicer

Have you tried calling them? I imagine you have but I’m not sure how else you could in contact with them. I take it you’ve also emailed LGA and they’ve been unresponsive?

Hey guys! Could anyone please give me some tips on what maybe to wear to the grad scheme? I’ve signed my contract and only have a few weeks before I start at the City of London Corporation and I feel like I don’t have any clue what to wear. Any advice would be great! Thank you in advance ☺️

There's some interviews online from NGDP/impact current candidates you could get some inspiration from

I'm planning on smart trousers and a shirt, possibly a smart jacket also or jumper and or tie.

I wouldn't say a suit is necessary.

Have you tried spare rooms or HMOs. They aren't ideal but some you can do shorter term until you find something more appropriate

I'm staying in a nice one for 6months to get used to the place

I think that'll have to be the way, as you say to get used to the area especially. Stayed at home when I went to Uni so it's all new to me. Any tips on surviving? Haha

So have a look for agencies/companies with professional lets. That way you're with people more likely to be tidy/sensible haha.

Otherwise you could get a spare room in a small household so it's a bit like a family set up/smaller household

hey, does anyone know if the LGA/Impact communicates the schedule of the mandatory learning & development programme stuff (virtual & in-person) to the councils?
