UK home student living abroad

Hi there

I am a 17 year old living in France, but a UK national and classed as a UK home student. I have received an offer to study in the UK in September, I will be 18 at the point the course starts, on 21st September.

Student Finance has asked for my UK bank account details and NI number. However, I have neither of these since I am currently living in France. Is there a way around this for Student Finance? I'm not able to apply for either of the two given that I don't have a UK address.

Many thanks

Hi there,

You can still submit an application without your National Insurance Number and bank details however we will not be able to pay you until you get these details. We will be able to assess your application until the point were we would send your National Insurance Number to the DWP to get validated.

Thanks, Drew

Thanks for the reply Drew.

I have a few questions:

1.

Is there anything you can suggest for how I can set this up whilst I am not yet in the country?

2.

Is there a deadline for me to provide these details to student finance in order to be paid?

Many thanks

Hi there,

You cannot apply for a National Insurance Number unless you have a UK address and I believe it is the same for a bank account. A student has up to 9 months from the 1st day of the academic year to submit evidence however if your course starts in September then I would expect your payments will be delayed due to having to apply for a National Insurance Number and bank account and then we need to validate your National Insurance Number.

Thanks, Drew

Hi! Could you pls give me some insight into how you’ve qualified as a home student? I just ask because I’ve lived abroad too but have been placed as an international.
