Hey! How many hours of study/how many lectures are there roughly a week for a course like sociology and education? Just trying to plan my time out lol

Hi there! As a psychology student at Cardiff, I get around 10-12 hrs of contact hours per week (ie., time where I am directly interacting with univeristy staff), but you usually have to do quite a bit of independent study time. The university usually recommends 40hrs of study per week, which includes contact hours.

If you wanted a more specific answer on sociology/education courses, I recommend contacting and asking the School of Social Sciences, by emailing them at: [email protected].

Hope that helps!

Hey! I’m starting psychology at Cardiff in September! What was your timetable like for that year? Thank you!

Hiya!

Congrats on your offer, that's awesome! You usually have 2hr lectures every day in the morning. You get extra smaller classes taught by a graduate teaching assistant, which is with your tutor group and another group (weekly) and you get tutorials, which are with your tutor group (fortnightly). You also get 3 meetings in a semester with your personal tutor. There are optional lectures such as career talks, and there is an optional stats drop-in every Friday, to help if you're struggling a bit with your stats work.

Its worth mentioning that you'll never have any classes on a Wednesday afternoon. Hope that helps!

No worries, you're not being a pain at all - happy to answer any questions you have!

Yes, we do usually have reading week for psychology - though some other subjects don't! It depends on the course, and how lecturers intend to run it

Hi there,

Unfortunately, we don't have access to that information. You will be able to log into your timetable on SIMS before the semester starts.

Sorry that we can't help more.

All the best,
