Transitioning to University - ask a current student

Hi everyone!

Now we are nearing the end of the exam season, I know many of you will have questions surrounding the transition between college/sixth form and University, moving into accommodation and what the first few weeks at University may look like for you.

I am a current third year student at the University of Sheffield, so if you have any questions about starting your journey towards a degree then please do ask away! It is a new and exciting time for everyone starting at university, and I wish you all the best of luck!

Hi!

Thank you for your question. We have an online platform where you can chat to current students from a wide variety of courses, ages and other backgrounds, and this will allow you to ask any specific course questions you may have. You can find this platform by following this link: https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/study/chat

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions or queries, feel free to ask!

Hi!

I believe that a lot of courses recommend a 3:1 ratio of independent study/reading to contact hours, but of course this is dependent on the course and the current deadlines/goals you may have at the beginning vs. the end of the semester/year. Most Arts, Humanities and Social Science courses have roughly 6-10 hours of contact hours a week, and this is likely reduce in your second and third year.

I hope this has helped!

I've seen the chat option, nobody from the faculty or course is available on chat

Hiya,

Unfortunately, that means we do not have a representative for that specific course on our website.

If you have any general questions about university, us student ambassadors can try to help you otherwise I would encourage you to visit Sheffield on an open day where you can meet with lecturers and students on the course.

Yours Sincerely,
Jivanthika
