Mature Student from USA

I am looking at going back to school pursue my History BA at a UK university. I have about three years of classes from my US university with some great grades but then due to health complications and some other factors I have some very poor grades and ended up leaving without a degree. Its now been about 3 years and the cost of university in the US and all of the hurdles of going back have me looking in the UK. I have also spent a good deal of time here and have been planning a move.

I'm wondering what universities are good for a foundational year for international students and also how much luck do I have with a very varied academic history and just recent work history that is in no way related to the field I wish to enter. Also Advanced Placement classes in the US seem to be the replacement for A levels, but my school in the states barely offered them. I am at a loss of where to start and would love any guidance.

@Stiffy Byng History is her subject of speciality!!! 😉
Usually in the UK for mature students they want to see some recent study within the last 3 years. Often more recent study will be focused on rather than earlier studies (whether successful or not) as the more recent study will be more indicative of current attainment.

If you were in the UK I would suggest exploring Access to HE course options, or taking aone modules with the OU if that would be acceptable by the unis you're looking to apply to (as often UK unis recognise mature students will have a more varied educational background). If you're still in the US this wouldn't be an option so I would suggest contacting the UK universities and asking what they might accept to indicate recent academic achievement in your case. My guess is taking some classes at a community college might be a good option
