Hi I just finished my first year at University of Bristol studying biomedical sciences. For biomedical sciences, you have to learn everything I guess. Biochemistry is something you definitely will learn if you do biomed so I don't know if you're up for that. But you will also learn a lot about cells.

The job prospects from biomed is pretty good I guess. You can do research as a biomedical scientist, a biotechnologist, a clinical scientist, a forensic scientist, microbiologist or go on to do medicine. Most people choose to do research after they graduate so they will be working in a lab most of the time. However, it takes a very long time to start earning some real money if you do research. Once you graduate, you need to work your way up so getting a masters and/or a PhD and then you have your postdoc years to come. The working hours (if you do research) can be very long, but the basic work-life balance can be achieved. The stability as a researcher is not guaranteed because you'll be on contracts which can be short or long. You'll have to start looking for a new job or be ready to sign a new contract before your old contract ends. You won't always have contracts. It is lucky if you could find permanent positions. Hope this helps.
