GCSE requirements for uni

If I have a 4 or 5 in maths, and a university wants a grade 6, will that hold me back even if I have exceeded their A-level requirements but have not taken A-level maths.
Answered in the other thread but in the vast, vast majority of cases you would be automatically rejected for not meeting the GCSE requirements.

You can however ask your school / college about resitting Maths GCSE in Year 13 to get the required grade, or AS Maths or Core Maths. You would just list this as another 'pending' qualification on your UCAS application and any Uni offer would include the GCSE as an extra condition.

Yeah but if they sit it in the summer with their A levels, they won’t get accepted until the gcse results day, if they get the grade.

If their A level results are dire they will get rejected on Results Day, if they are okay then the Uni will wait for their GSCE result and confirm their place. I have never known anyone to get a lower grade on a GCSE resit.

yeah but what if they get the same gcse? doesnt make sense to retake while sitting a levels

It does if its your only way of being considered for that course.

Its a choice - retake to meet the stated entry requirements, or apply somewhere else.
