Would Economics hurt my chances for University course i want to do

Hello, I am a 16 year old student who wants to do philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford for my university course. I have already submitted my A-Level choices for college (Politics, History, Economics and English). I checked the Oxford website and it said that it is highly recommended to do maths for a-level to do the course. I chose economics over maths for a level, so would this damage my chances of doing ppe, especially at such a prestigious university?? I think economics should do it but I’m still extremely anxious!

Yes most students will be doing maths, with lots of ppl also doing further maths. You should think about replacing one of your subjects with maths as you are doing 4. Maybe maths, Econ, politics and history

Further maths is not necessary for PPE at all. Maths though, yes.

Thanks mate. I just want to make sure that It is not possible to do economics over maths at all? Surely it would fit the course content better??

For any Economics degree, A level Maths is needed far more than A level Economics.
Drop English - its a lot of work and you dont need it - take Maths instead.

Economics itself is not an issue. Lack of A-level Maths is realistically the issue here.

I would strongly recommend you plan to drop one of your subjects for maths if PPE (or indeed any economics degree) is your goal.

Which subject you swap for maths is up to you.

ofc economics will be most similar to economics at uni but maths is fundamental to the stuff you learn at DEGREE level. you really shouldnt be picking either econ or maths. you should be thinking about which 2 to do out of history, politics or english.

Maths is a more useful a level to take. Not all colleges offer a level economics, but basically every college offers maths. For this reason they will teach you the economics you need to know from scratch at university, assuming no prior knowledge.
