University of Leicester

Hello!

I'm gearing up to begin my MSc in molecular genetics at the University of Leicester this September 2024. Could anyone provide insights into the program? How reputable is the department? What's the curriculum like, and how is research typically conducted there?

Additionally, I'm curious about the overall reputation of the university. How does it stack up against others? And what's the employment outlook like for graduates from Leicester?

TIA!!

You know DNA fingerprinting, used worldwide to catch criminals, was pioneered there, right? Sir Alec Jeffreys who pioneered it works in the Department of Genetics at the University of Leicester to this day. The university also discovered the body of Richard III.

hi.

regarding your programme, I can't say anything about it. I am, however, a recent Leicester grad (2023) having done a master's in applied linguistics there. There is not a single thing I can complain about. In case it matters, it got its royal charter in 1957 so it sits between red brick and plate glass, if one were to use those classifications. the campus is interesting and sits in a lovely park. It's the midlands...it's friendly! I don't have much of substance to offer, except that I would recommend Leicester to anyone.

I was happy enough with the uni to do a phd there, but instead opted for Heidelberg where I am now. Good luck.

Agreed. The campus is a gem for lovers of the contrasts between 20th Century architectural styles.
