Hi
@Emily0713 ,
It's great to hear your considering studying with us! There is alot to say about being a student at Southampton. First off, I would say Southampton is very much a student city with about 20% of it's population (between us and Solent). This means that there are alot of things for students to do in the area outside of studies. The city has two main areas that a lot students use off campus - the city centre and Portswood. Both have cafes, supermarkets, shops and restaurants as well as bars and clubs for nights out. The city centre is also home to Westquay, one of the largest shopping centres in the south with well known shops, restaurants, a cinema and evene a bowling alley. The city is connected through the Unilink bus system which is designed around university students and the areas that are frequented. Unilink buses can also be usde to travel between campuses and the halls of residence. Students living in university halls also get a free bus pass for the duration of their time in halls.
The university is split over 6 campuses in the city, but most of it is concentrated on the Highfield campus. On-campus, there are loads of facilities for students. This includes our campus Kitchen sites (eateries run by the university such as la Piazza, the arlott cafe and the Starbucks in the the library), the student hub (which hosts the univeristy's careers team and wellbeing team as well as other services) , a wide range of spaces run by
SUSU (our student union) and
our sports spaces. In terms of extra-carricular, The university hosts over 400 clubs and societies covering a wide range of sports and acivities.
Hope this gives you some insight and if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask
