Adult Dependancy Grant Help

Hi,

I received a notification from student finance England saying they need proof of the financial support I gave to my adult dependant over the last 12 months. My mother can't handle her own finances so when I send money towards our house, I usually send it to my sisters who then use it on her behalf. I'm not sure what I can do in this situation. It's been made clear with her mental health hospital that she can't handle her own finances as due to her mental conditions she acts very impulsive, hence why it goes to my sisters.

As a result, I'm not sure what to do in this situation? Should I speak to the people at the hospital to see if they can provide a letter which says she doesn't usually handle her own finances and then show all pf the times i've sent money to my sister for bills?

I don't have power of attorney or anything like that so how likely is it they will accept this as evidence to permit me the grant?

Any help will be appreciated

Hi Psychidiot12,

You can upload a cover letter to your account with a copy of you and your sisters birth certificates to show the relationship as well as the bank statements that show that you are making payments to support your mother. The assessors will review this on a case by case basis and will confirm if this evidence is acceptable on it's own. Our current processing timescales are approximately 25 working days, with subject to change depending on our current volumes.

Thanks, Clare

Hi Clare, should I just outline the situation in my application? I can try and request a letter from my Mums mental health hospital but I'm not entirely sure if they will provide this. Similarly, I don't think I have my birth certificate, but I can provide pictures of both mine and my sister's passports if that is acceptable identification?

Hi there. Yes, if you can go into as much details as possible on a covering letter and then upload this to your online account with the evidence. If you can only provide copies of the passports I would upload this and explain why you cannot provide the birth certificates Thanks, David
