Do I need letters of recommendation to get into university?

I’m hoping to study the accounting and finance course at university, and I’m wondering if I need letters of recommendation to get into good unis?? I heard that it would make my application stronger. So do I need it? Where do I even get the letters of recommendation from? Teachers? Employers from work experience?

Oh, so do the teachers write recommendations letters with grades on? I’m still a bit confused…do I have to personally ask the teachers to help me write them?

When you apply you fill in a UCAS application with all of your achieved grades (Note: this means all, including any failed grades, resat grades and grades you'd rather not mention). Before it is submitted, you will have a UCAS referee who is nominated to write your reference. They will include any predicted but not yet achieved grades and a written reference.

For more information, the terms to search are "UCAS reference" and "UCAS referee". Here's some information to get you started: https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/applying-university/how-get-ucas-reference

If your in a UK school it is done automatically when you apply. Your school decides who does your reference. That person will collate your predicted grades from individual subject teachers and send them off to ucas as part of your application.

I've only ever seen "letters of recommendation" in a US context.

If you're at a school or college in the UK, the process of writing a reference would be handled by the school/college typically by your tutor/teacher.
