Paris 2024 Olympics: Rowing and Canoeing

Welcome to the Paris 2024 Olympics! :woo:

This thread is about 2-3 oar-based Olympic sports: ROWING and CANOEING

We're combining both sports into one thread. :woo:

First up, Rowing:
Traditionally a comfortable area for Team GB but disappointment felt in Tokyo sets a very interesting backdrop for British hopes this time. 14 gold medals up are available in this Olympic games. Rowing is one of the earlier sports to get underway, with medals all wrapped up by 3rd August.

Next up, Canoe Slalom:
Taking huge skill, precision, a tiny bit of luck - this event has athletes storming down a set of rapids in a very fast canoe, trying to loop their head through a series of gates in order to not score penalty points. It's a very tricky sport to compete in and even harder for camera operators to allow TV spectators to see the gates.

Finally, Canoe Sprint:
Always scheduled later in the olympiad (after the rowing - held in the same place), canoeing has athletes paddling flat across the water (unlike slalom's rapids). 10 medals are up for grabs in Paris this year.

I'm starting Day 1 with the heats of the men's single sculls in the rowing.

Looks like the dull weather continues there.

The Germans are superb in these contests. I am so delighted with their performances and achievements. :yep:
