I'm stressing out about my degree choice

Hi,
I'm a year 12 student. Up until now I'd only had one option in my mind about what to do: Law. I don't honestly know too much about the subject but I LOVED English literature with all my heart because of how individual interpretation can be expressed through my writing. My current subjects are Chemistry, maths and CS. I really regretted choosing CS over English because at the time I thought the most 'valued' degree would be better for me. I'm scared I'm going to make that mistake all over again.

For reference, my grades show no difference between the STEM subjects and humanities. My current plan is to take a STEM degree like chemistry (applying to Russel groups) and then become a patent lawyer. Realistically I want a healthy income as I want to support my family and am not from a high income background. But I'm getting worried- what if I could have gotten into Oxbridge law? What If there aren't enough jobs for chemistry patent attorneys when the time comes? What if my friends who chose law end up getting jobs more rewarding than mine, as I don't want to work in a lab. I like STEM a lot, but I find humanities like Law super enjoyable too. Advice would be great

I suggest that you focus on things that interest you and not on money. If you find a thing that you like and become expert at it, someone will pay you to do it.

Why do you think you want to be a lawyer? Do you have any idea what lawyers do, and patent attorneys in particular?

I have the idea that patent attorneys examine new scientific inventions and complete the relevant legal work required to get a patent in. As for law in general, I felt it was a creative profession that was also in demand (commercial law)

That is broadly correct. Law is more conservative than creative by and large, but it's possible to be creative in fields such as human rights and environmental law.
