Advice please - part time undergrad open university

So it’s a part time degree I’m going to be doing, I’m meant to do 60 credits a year, am I able to do more credits in that year? So like 90 credits instead if I wanted to?? As there’s two modules in stage 1 which are meant to be the easiest? And would I be able to finish the degree quicker than 6 years? If I finish and pass all assessments and modules etc, it would be good if I could finish it a little quicker!

Hi. Yes you can more or less decide each year how many modules you want to do but they can’t exceed 120 credits. For example, I finished my degree in 3 years (full-time study) as all my modules were 60 credits each and I did 2 modules each year. Depending on your degree, the credits for each module can vary from 30 credits to 60. You can also stagger your first year so start a 60 module in October 2024 then pick up another module in Jan 2025. I did this and it just meant I could get used to the online system and how things worked with the OU. However, staggering is only an option in year 1. Also modules with a different start date can have implications for student finance so always check with OU student services first.
As mentioned above, you can do up to 120 credits per year in agreement with student services and module teams. I know several peeps who have done 4 modules a year, though I'd caution against overloading yourself if you don't need to.

I did 3 stage 3 30 credit modules in a year recently and it was probably one too many for my work/social/study balance and properly burned me out. That's just me though and I wasn't as prepared as I'd have liked to be.

Just make the decision that's best for you and your situation at the time. I had credit transfer from a lower qualification and skipped 3 modules, so I'll be finishing my MEng in 2 years time, coming in at about 8 years rather than 9.

Welcome to the OU community, it really is a wonderful place with brilliant people. Enjoy your university adventure and best of luck. 😀
