ARU Chelmsford holidays timetable ?

I am going to ARU Chelmsford in September to study a BSC in Building Surveying. I have had a look at the academic calendar published on their website (https://www.aru.ac.uk/-/media/Files/students-and-staff/Academic-calendar-higher-education-2024-25.pdf) but it seems like all of the holidays are really short. I know other people at uni/that have finished uni in the last few years that used to break for summer at the end of May/start of June but their summer vacation doesn’t seem to start until the start/middle of August!!

I’m now worried i’ll be down on 6 weeks worth of full time work that I thought I would be able to do. Some people have said to me that they probably publish these dates but in reality the course will not run for all of the dates stated it’s more of a box ticking exercise for them but just wondered if any current ARU students could confirm? TIA

Hello,

Current ARU student here. I’m a medical student so my holiday time varies year on year but along with the other healthcare courses we probably have a longer course run time each academic year and we still have a lot more holiday time than what the calendar you have posted above suggests. From my understanding this is a general guideline to what each faculty has to work towards as the absolute earliest start and latest end date. For undergraduate courses most courses will break up after final exams at the end of May/June time and not resume until mid September. In healthcare sometimes we break up late June/mid July and resume start of September. I also think this calendar is account for things such as resit exams and coursework which is why the dates seem so late in the summer. Hope this helps. ☺️

I wouldn’t worry though as you are studying a BSc it’s very likely you will finish by mid-June and not resume until mid-late September. Our welcome week is usually mid September as well so it’s usually the last week of September that most courses start back. Hope this helps. ☺️
