Divorced Parents Student Finance

Hi everyone, my parents have been divorced for almost 5 years now and I sent off my student finance application stating as such. A month later I got it back saying I would get the lowest amount of maitenance and then found out that my mum hadn't sent off any evidence of the divorce - she is the parent I live with. After a month of looking for evidence, so now at the end of June that this is happening, we were able to send evidence of the divorce to the student finance headquarters

I'm just wondering if it was too late as I haven't heard anything back and it's been about a month? Getting very worried as the minimum amount doesn't even cover my accommodation and while I will definitely be getting a job I don't think it's very fair as I come from a single-income household and should be on something closer to the maximum amount

Hi there, the same thing happened to me last year, i initially was told i'd get a very small maintenance loan because my dad (the parent i live with) hadn't sent evidence of divorce papers. Once he sent these off it did take quite a bit of time for student finance to process this, I guess because it's the time of year where they receive applications. I understand how worrying it is - if you still haven't heard anything, maybe consider giving them a ring or using the chat function on their website for an update, even if they just confirm to you it is being processed/give you a timescale of when it's likely to be completed. Once my application was updated and processed, I did end up getting a higher maintenance loan through proof of single-income household. I hope the same happens for you, best of luck with your application.

At the time you submitted your evidence, the processing time was around 6-7 weeks. That means there is stil time for your full funding to be in place before the start of term.
