Graduation day questions

I cannot seem to find the answer anywhere, but does anyone know whether graduates are able to take bags in with them?

I know guests are able to take small bags with them, but I have no idea about if I can as a graduate. I'm travelling, plus it's going to be hot, so I can't really go with nothing.

At my graduation last week we were allowed to take a bag into the ceremony with us, but we had to leave it at our seats when collecting our certificates etc. 🙂
