Forensic Psychology to Counselling Psychology

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if I did a masters in Forensic Psychology, would I be able to do a Doctorate of Counselling Psychology (DCounPsy) or would I need a more relevant masters?

Thanks

Given that a Master's isn't even required for entry to a Doctorate of Counselling Psychology, it would seem a bit unreasonable if your chances of an offer were reduced by having one (because it was in the "wrong" branch of Psychology). I suspect, therefore, that this will not be an issue.

However, you will be need to be prepared to answer the obvious question about why you're switching your focus - as they'll want to be sure that you're focused fully on Counselling Psychology now, and aren't going to abandon the Doctorate part-way through to switch back to Forensic Psychology.
