sibling at uni household income shared?

I will have two children at uni at the same time. As i have read it the household income is shared between them both so they should receive more maintenance loan based on our income. Is this correct?

Hi Camrudge1,

It is taken into account that you have another dependent on each application so that some of the household income is disregarded.

Thanks, Clare

Is that the £1,130 for a dependant child? The guidance states
Other students in your household
Different rules apply if you have a brother, sister or parent who is also getting student finance. We’ll work out your household contribution before it’s shared between you and the other students in your family. In normal circumstances, it’ll be shared out equally. However, in certain circumstances it may be shared differently to make sure that the amount of contribution reflects whose income has been included in the income assessment.

My two children have had their entitlement through and it states they are getting the minimum loan - however, the guidance states that in normal circumstances, household contribution will be shared out equally. This hasn't happened in my situation. I have tried phoning the helpline but they did not understand my query. I also have another child at home so am worrying. Can you please confirm if i am correct? Thank you.

Hi there,
There is a disregard applied of £1,130 for each child attending university. For us to check on the awarded funding for them they can contact us direct so we can check on the funding and ensure they have been awarded funding correctly. Thanks, Angela

I did contact direct and so did my children but non of the advisors knew what I was talking about on the split contribution point which is worrying. I have appealed the decision so it will hopefully get reviewed. I have done the calculation myself and it does seem incorrect.

Hi there,

If you have made an appeal it can take 40 working days for it to be fully reviewed. You will also receive an email regarding it.

Thanks,
Ross

I have received an automated response which states if not heard back within 10 days to take it that the appeal is rejected. I’ve not heard anything back so should I now appeal to the next stage or is there a delay? Would you send a formal response if rejecting my appeal?

Hi there, Appeals are taking longer than normal currently due to the volume received. We can check on the Appeals progress if you would like to contact us direct? You can call us on 0300 100 0607. Thanks, Angela
