what to study in year 12…?

help me im so stressed about what to do in september - i want to try a level biology bc i really enjoy it but most people say that it’s pretty useless unless i do chemistry and maths (which i hate)
i also wanted to do a business, economics and geography combo but i’ve not studied economics before and don’t enjoy geography what do i do

I studied biology, and I think the course was very interesting.
For applying to university, chemistry and maths may be required for some courses at some universities, but it's really down to what you are thinking of studying after college.

I haven't studied economics personally, but from people I knew at college, they enjoyed studying it without any prior experience in it.
Hope this helps!

depends what you want to study in uni but, quite a lot of people in my sixth form did biology and psychology as a combo and those work pretty well together. and for a level psychology you don't need any prior learning, same for economics

i’ve posted this question so much now and still don’t have a clear answer so i really need help😭
im a student who just finished secondary, going into year 12 in september. results day is coming up and im expected to enrol into somewhere soon but i don’t know whether i want to go to college or sixth form.
i also don’t even know what courses (a level/btec) i want to do and have no clue what career path i want to embark. i hate maths, but i also hate essay writing so it just seems like nothing works for me😭😭 i somewhat enjoyed biology at gcse (combined) as it was interesting and enjoyed gcse business but got a grade 6 (i was in year 10, so wasn’t very serious)
Im leaning towards a levels as everyone tells me it’s the better path for the future but is it important if i don’t want to go uni??
if anyone ever felt stuck like this but finally found something that suited them plz help🙏🏽🙏🏽 feels like education just isn’t for me atp

Why are you heading for Sixth Form when it clearly doesnt interest you that much?
Have you looked at local colleges for BTECS or more vocational courses?
Or at an apprenticeship - Find an apprenticeship - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

If you’re set on doing a levels your interest in Biology and Business would make them great subjects for you to do at A level!
If you dont like maths or essay subjects then avoid them, you’ll do best with subjects that you enjoy. If you don’t know what you want to do in the future then its best to stick with your interests whilst making sure you keep your options open- Biology and Business seem like a good starting point for this.
Are there are other subjects which you think you may enjoy which your sixth form offers, btec or a level?
You also do not need chemistry and maths to take biology providing, although some unis will want 2 science subjects. If you’re not that keen on geography then maybe don't take it. It’s also not recommended to take business and economics together as they are quite similar.
Also if you aren’t interested in sixth form that much that’s fine, it’s perfect ok to decide that its not for you- there are other options, have you looked into that’s available to you locally?
Hope this helps a little and happy to answer any more questions if you have them. Best of luck for results day!

thank you! i just think i’m too indecisive (still) and don’t even know what my strong points are. I’ve mentioned doing business and biology to people and they just tell me it’s too much of a random combination.. especially as i still don’t know what i want to do as a third a level

People take all kind of random combinations for A levels, as long as you enjoy it that’s what matters!
You’re not keen on essays or maths or chemistry and if you’re set on business then econ isnt the best idea. You mentioned geography, is that still an option or no?
How about arts courses? Something sports or computer related?
Maybe have a look through all the courses on your prospective sixth form’s website. When i chose my courses I went through and wrote them all down, then I crossed off ones I knew I wouldn’t qualify for (like i didn't take the subjects I needed etc) then I crossed off the subjects I don't like (if you haven’t taken a subject before watch some YouTube videos on it from students who’ve taken it and see what they think and look at the specification too). You should then be left with some subjects that you’re good at and enjoy and you can hopefully narrow it down from there! Happy to help if you need it
Best of luck for results day!

if you’re not sure what degree you want to do but you want to do STEM then bio, chem and maths are a good all-around combo

if they hate the subject they shouldnt even consider doing them. however if they want to pursue biology, they may need another science or maths. biology and geography can work as a combo along with another science.

I agree with this. I think a core science (Biology) and a “science” like psychology or environmental science or geography could work for them if they enjoy the subject. If they dont know what they want to do in the future then taking subjects they like is probably best then they can find degrees they can get onto with those subjects or pursue a career relating to one. Business and Biology sounds good but without more info from OP it’s hard to advise on a third. They dont like chemistry, maths, geography, essay subjects, econ is too similar to business to keep options open. I think that broadly leaves the “sciences” mentioned above (psychology, environmental science), any creatives, sport related courses, more vocational options, maybe languages, computing courses. How’s your decision going @zaiiiinn ?

hi, i’ve recently spoken with some older students who have been recommending more subjects that might be suited to me due to my very limited choices. as it’s now a day before results day, i’m thinking to do psychology, economics and geography but i think it’s too random of a combination. would you think that biology, psychology and business would be a more appropriate combination regarding all my conditions for alevels?

this sounds like a really good idea crossing them out, i’ll be trying this before i enrol!!

If you’re interested in psychology then that could be a great third choice!
Economics or business also sounds like it would meet your interests due to your enjoyment of business gcse! Maybe have a look at some of the differences between the two courses if you’re unsure of which to pick between them?
As for biology vs geography, take whichever you preferred to study or you think the spec looks the most interesting for. You mentioned before that you liked biology but not so much geography so if that’s still the case I would suggest taking Biology as its best to take the subjects which you enjoy but if you’ve looked through the content and had a change of heart that’s fine.
Make sure you have a good understanding of the course content of your subjects before making your final decision
With regards random combinations, you should be fine. Lots of students dont know what they want to do after their a levels so taking subjects you enjoy will mean there should be a variety of appealing opportunities in degrees and work after you finish sixth form.
