How to go from Nursing to Sonography ?

Hi, I am about to start my 3rd year in Adult Nursing Undergrad and have been quite interested in imaging and pursuing a career in Sonography.
The Univeristy of Salford have postgraduate courses in Advanced Medical Imaging and in Ultrasound imaging.
I was wondering from my position now, would it be possible to do a masters/postgrad in either of those courses straight after graduating nursing or would I need to have a year experience as a RN in something related such as a labour ward?

Hello,

Firstly congratulations on starting your 3rd year at university and best of luck with what is to come.

It is great that you are starting to look at your options for the future and you are completely right in thinking that if you want to get into a career path such as Sonography, a masters is a good pathway to do so.

At our institution the MSc Ultrasound Imaging would be a good option to take to go into the field of Sonography. You can find out more information on the course details as well as the entry requirements here.

Our entry requirements for the MSc degree would be that you will hold a degree in BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography or other health care professional qualification (adult nursing falls under this category), at a 2:1 or above.

If you do not have a 2:1 degree and wish to apply, the programme lead will make a decision about whether a APEL is required (this may delay your offer so please apply as soon as possible).

For more information I would recommend getting in touch with our course enquiries team. To email our course enquiries teams it would be [email protected] they take up to five days to respond to any email.

You can also give them a call on 0161 295 4545 between the hours of 10am and 4pm, Monday - Friday.

I do hope this information helps you.
