GCSE science for PGCE - ALL science or just one?

Hi, I don’t have my science GCSE I did at school which was the triology. If I go to do GCSE Biology which is what my local college is offering, can I use this to apply for a PGCE next year or does it have to be all three sciences?

I am wanting to do primary school PGCE

Thanks

Hi, having a quick look online it seems to be that a GCSE in a science subject would count, being biology, chemistry, physics or combined science.

So a GCSE in biology should count for a Primary PGCE.
You can also look on the getintoteaching website to check as well.

Hi @Lexie1995

I'll be doing a primary PGCE in September, and there is someone in my cohort who only has GCSE Physics. So it is possible, but of course, you must check with the specific PGCE provider you plan to study with (if you know). If you do know who you want to study with, I would definitely reach out to them and ask them if they would accept GCSE Biology. Just for some peace of mind!

Or, as Lkathryn08 said, Get Into Teaching is excellent! You can even pair yourself up with an advisor who stays with you through the application and interview process. Click here to find out more 🙂

Good luck!

From my research, I found that as long as you have one subject that should be fine. I am looking to do the same, I'm resitting my biology.

Have you decided which one you'd resit? I'm 33 and have 2 kids, so I'm worried how I will fit revision. I cc an resit November, but trying to be realistic with myself. I think I might have to choose June next year.

I do intend on applying for the PGCE but will have to tell them I'm resitting science. I hope I get in!
