University of leicester or Lincoln for psychology BSc?

Hello,
I've been struggling to pick between Leicester and Lincoln University for psychology Bsc as one is closer to me compared to the other (Lincoln is closer).
Pros of Leicester: great course, option for study abroad and year in industry (apparently there are more choices for year in industry and more support), campus is nice, it is also a top 30 uni.
Cons of leicester: expensive (like very) accommodation prices are insane especially because I live further away from it I'd have to struggle living there most likely. Not heard much good stuff about Leicester as a city.
Pros of Lincoln: good course, easy to get around, close, less expensive, campus is also nice and the Lincoln has a vibe? (it's pretty)
Cons of Lincoln: ranking is top 50 I think and is ranked 60th for psychology whereas Leicester is ranked 45th for psychology, I've looked at year in industry opportunities and mainly saw complaints from people that there isn't much support (apparently) and not much to pick from.
For comfort I would pick Lincoln as I wouldn't have to struggle throughout the year and for ranking/ course I would pick Leicetser. I know rankings don't matter THAT much but for some reason it makes me stand out more even though Lincoln isn't that bad. I still don't know which one to pick and if I were to pick Lincoln I'd have to go into clearing as I don't have it as my firm or insurance.

Id recommend looking at both courses on the uni guide as they have lots of stats from students who did the course and analytics so that might help inform your decision.

Hi @Zushie

I know how challenging it can be picking between universities 😕 So just wanted to share my own personal experience at Leicester and some advice that hopefully can help you make the choice best for you! 🙂

So I am a current Psychology with Cognitive Neuroscience student, currently on my placement year (Year in Industry).

Leicester is a very vibrant city! I am not from Leicester myself, but I enjoy living in this city, the resturants, the parks and the people. I found it be a really diverse and inclusive city. I would really suggest coming to the city, personally coming to the offer holder day was the biggest motivation for me to go this university. People are so friendly and the students are welcoming, I genuinely felt like I could see myself living there and enjoying it 🙂

Accommodation at Leicester starts from £69 a week! The University offers a range of accommodations to suit different budgets, and financial support is available. As for the city, Leicester is affordable living compared to other major cities. According to Net west, 2023 its top 10 most affordable cities to live in! I find it an affordable and enjoyable place to live and study.

Please let me know if you have any other questions about the psychology course or student experience, I would be more than happy to answer them

Hey @Zushie

So personally I had around 10-12 hours of contact. I went on to campus for 3 to 4 days. However this changes each year so this might change 🙂 Personally I was travelling by train for 45 mins before moving to leicester, so I would say it's possible depending on how far it would be!

Hey!!

Have you looked into accommodation with Unite Students / SULETS / iQ (my favourite!) ? They are a lot cheaper than university owned accommodation and still offer the social aspect of accom. They are often much nicer and cleaner, and for Leicester the accom is central rather than a bus ride away like a lot of the university accom.

Hope this helps!

honestly, it will come down to personal preference zushie. leicester has much better night life. my cousin went there and he loved it. However, lincoln is one of the most affordable cities in the uk. After exams day, youll have the opportunity to visit them both. from here, id just get a feel of both universities and just feel which one seems more suitable for you. Im going Lincoln through clearing since i didnt put it as my first choice, so i get how it can be daunting for you. Let me know if you do end up going lincoln aswell. All the best and goodluck mate

train is like an hour with changes sometimes in nottingham and then straight to Leicester
I'm just worried it'll be too expensive even with a discount
