Why would he ask me if I’m interested?

An old guy friend who I’ve gotten back in touch with recently admitted to me that he used to have a big crush on me when we were 17 (we’re now 21 fyi), I liked him too so also admitted my feelings. He’s now asked “are you still interested I’m curious?” I genuinely have no idea if he’s hinting at still having feelings or not but basically I do but am not prepared to ruin our friendship incase he doesn’t…. How does this come across from an outsider point of view? Thanks 🫶

It's pretty much as it says on the tin. He's asking if you're still interested.

If he had no interest in you at all, it's very unlikely he would have asked that question... he would have been polite about it and steered the conversation to something else.

If you like him and he likes you (and you're both single obvs), I don't see the harm in dipping your toe in the water. Suggest going for a quiet drink with him or something, and see how you get on. A first date isn't exactly a marriage proposal... and guys are (generally) a lot less complicated than girls. If it doesn't work out we won't get awkward about it (provided we're both mature about it). It only really seems to be girls who get really freaked out by their mates fancying them; even if he doesn't fancy you, at the very least it feeds his ego. Furthermore, the fact that he's asked the question means it's not going to be a big shock / surprise to learn that you do still like him.
