Mental Health Nursing Uni Interview

Hi,

I have an interview for mental health nursing, I was wondering if anyone knows what questions they’ll ask me, it’s with York St John and they haven’t given me any insight into how long it is, what type of interview it will be etc. on their uni page it just says to read the NMC code? It’s also a virtual interview, I also have 2 weeks to prepare.

Thanks

Hi,

So l've been given an interview for the 8th August. I just want to know what questions they'll likely ask, the uni I have applied to is York St John, they have only said to read up on the NMC codes, they haven't said how long it will be or anything like that, they literally haven't given me anything to work off.

I'm coming from not having any experience working in an actual healthcare setting like a gp, hospital etc. I have experience caring for my mum and dad, also some experience working in a school helping kids with special needs. I think my personal statement did well it's just l'd need to bring that passion to my interview, I just about struggle with retail interviews and feel like l'm going to bottle it :frown:

Any advice??

It is against TSR rules to share details of interview questions on the forum, but there are some general guidelines in the following thread:

Hey,
I haven’t interviewed for York but I’ve had 5 interviews for mental health nursing elsewhere and I’d say that you shouldn’t be so worried as they were all quite relaxed and the interviewers were very friendly. I know I had a mixture of group interviews and 1-1 interviews so I’m not sure which type York do, the group interviews are usually longer as there’s obviously more people and 1-1 interviews were usually around 20-30 minutes.
I’d say a good start is to research 6 C’s healthcare, the NMC’s code of conduct and even look at the values page on the NHS’ constitution as mostly they want to see that your values align with the values of the NHS. Also think about why you have chosen mental health nursing and show that you have done some research into what the job entails and how you will deal with the stresses of being a nurse. Sometimes they give you a video to watch or some material to read beforehand but if they haven’t then I assume the questions will be relatively generic to nursing.
I didn’t have healthcare setting experience either, but had also been a carer and managed to get 5 offers so I wouldn’t be worried about that as it’s not mandatory.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Hi,
Congrats on getting an interview with us for the mental health nursing course !

I’m unsure on the questions they will ask you but I would recommend going through your personal statement, maybe write down some examples of caring/helping others or your main reasons of why you applied to YSJ and the course itself.

Please don’t worry too much about your interview, the lecturers are all very lovely and try make it less daunting experience for you as possible.

I would also recommend you give the admissions team a call regarding the length and any other questions you may have regarding the interview. I would recommend that you contact them before results day, as it may be easier to get in contact with them.

Admissions Contact details:

Phone number: 01904876598
Email: [email protected]

I have also linked the YSJ interview information page below

Good luck!
