Why do Hospitals make so many mistakes with CT Scans and miss easily seeable Conditions which are then picked up by a more competent hospital ?>

Hi I think I might study it for uni but the thing is I want to work in the medical field but my emotions are quite high I know when to control them but I wanted to know how much pain is there working as a radiologist and how rewarding and enjoyable is the job. And how hard is the uni course thank you

To be a radiologist you need to do a degree in medicine and then specialise. Diagnostic radiography is an Allied Health Profession:
So that you understand the role (and can show this to the unis you apply to), you need to get some shadowing experience in a hospital radiography department.

Hi, appreciate you creating this thread!
I'll be starting my studies for DR in Leeds come September, and I'm looking to start preparing now in terms of reading materials. I am a mature student currently working in an unrelated field, so I would also like to do some reading to get myself back into the right headspace for the course. (I completed my access to Science course a couple of years ago, so I am a bit rusty on the studying front).
Could you possible recommend any textbooks to acquire now, as well as anything else I might do to get myself prepared?

My genuine advice: do no reading at all. Reason being is two: as you start reading, you begin to start researching to try and find answers to your own Questions. You then spend time stressing about what you don't know and what you do know. Secondly, you have very limited "relaxation" time during your studies. You've been given an offer, which means that the University thinks your good enough, so why don't you reward yourself with a break before you begin your studies, do you understand? So genuinely, I wouldn't advise anyone to do any "reading" before they start. Just begin and follow the books/materials/guidance given to you by your University. Good luck!

Hi there, is there a lot of physics involved in the course? I can handle some but not a lot of it and that's why I am a bit worried. Thank you!

Hi there, thank you for making this thread. I was thinking about applying for Radiography but recently I've been advised that Nursing is a more fulfilling career. I personally prefer Radiography but I was wondering if you could give more insight about working as a radiographer.

You have to determine what is "fulfilling" for YOU. What makes someone choose nursing over radiography will be very different for them vs yourself.
Not only that, nursing is VAST career with a wide variety of options and career paths, and massively different levels of responsibility. A band 5 nurse working on a general ward is a very different role to an ICU nurse providing 1 to 1 care for a critically ill patient for a 12 hour shift, or a CNS working alongside a consultant oncologist in a cancer department.
Most people are attracted to radiography (of both flavours) because they like the mix of technology and face to face patient contact. One of the reasons I turned away from nursing towards (therapeutic) radiography was because the width of choice in nursing was overwhelming. Another was that I felt my personal skills and education would be of more use as a radiographer.

Not personally, but it is possible to become a Reporting Radiographer - this takes on some of the role of a radiologist in interpreting images. Obviously, it requires a lot of extra training to do so.
If you go down the radiotherapy route, it is possible to become a Consultant Radiographer - this takes on some of the role of a Consultant Oncologist.

Hi Any tips on Radiography interview i have one coming up at BCU.
Be confident, be bright, be attentive. Have a question(s) ready to ask at the end. If they've already answered it say "I was going to ask X, but you've already answered that".
Typical questions: Why do you want to be a radiographer? Why do you want to come to this university? Tell us about yourself Be prepared for Q's on current issues in the news related to the NHS Be prepared for basic questions about the role of radiographer, some uni's may even ask you some basic technical questions e.g. what types of imaging do radiographers do, what would you use them for etc.
