Parents on benefits - How does this affect a maintenance loan?

Hiya,

I hope you're all well.

I was reading up about maintenance loans, and it says they are calculated using your family's income.

My mum is disabled and on full-time benefits, and my dad has his pension and is a full-time carer for my mum.

How does this affect the maintenance loan as they don't work?

Thank you!

Hi there,

What benefits is it that they receive? Do you know? We only require taxable income for parental income information.

Thanks,
Ross

Hi Ross,

I believe my mum is on housing benefit, PIP, and either disability living allowance (DLA) or employment and support allowance (ESA), or possibly both. There's a lot to remember.

My dad is no longer on benefits because of his pension, despite still being a full-time carer, but before his pension he was on carers allowance.

Thank you for confirming.

PIP, DLA and ESA are non-taxable so we don't require that information from your Mother.

If your Father receives a pension then this would be taxable so we'd require that information.

Thanks,
Ross
