Declining Firm Offer and Going into Clearing

Hi. Finding help for a friend. Having difficulty on how to decline firm offer and be released into clearing to accept an offer for a different university which was not part of their top 5. Has emailed the university in advance before the deadline saying that they are unable to decline current application. UCAS doesn’t give an option to decline and instead says withdraw. They are scared that if they withdraw they might risk losing firm offer in case something happens and doesn’t want to delay going into university as they already had a gap year.
Can you please help a gal out?

Withdraw will cancel their application completely.
They need to ring UCAS today first thing. Today is the final day that UCAS can process reply swaps. They need to ask UCAS to swap their firm/insurance replies to decline. If they have declined all offers then they’ll be placed into clearing.
If they can’t do this today then they will have to wait until A level results day and see if their firm choice has accepted them. The decline my place option only appears then and only on unconditional firm applications.
