Immerse education essay competition

Has anyone participated in the contest by answering a self-made question? The "full guide" says that generating a new question related to a specific area of study is allowed, but I don't know if that will lower or improve my chances of winning. I am not sure how to proceed. Any thoughts or comments?

Hello I plan on entering the Immerse competition this year (I haven't decided with what question yet). I don't see why choosing your own question would reduce your chances of winning. The judges should be looking at the quality of your writing and research. I think if you choose a thought-provoking question and a topic you're strong in then you have a good chance of winning.

Just as a warning though, I keep seeing these threads on The Student Room that the competition is a scam and they tend to give partial scholarships of different sizes (e.g. some 50% and 10% scholarships) to the majority of participants. However, there are also people who have said they or someone they know has received a 100% scholarship and enjoyed the summer camp they chose. I thought I should just give you a heads up.

Good luck with the competition though!

No, I doubt it will have any affect on your chances (coming from a person who's doing an open PPE question).
