Come and study with us at Cranfield university :)

Hey everyone!

I'm Lucie, a student ambassador from Cranfield university currently studying a PhD.

As an international student, I've had a lot of amazing experiences, but Cranfield has been a wonderful place to call home for the past two years. The campus is beautiful and peaceful, the people are friendly, and the courses are very high quality.

You can choose one of the following fields of study (for postgraduate or some even offer fully funded PhDs):
- Aerospace
- Defence and security
- Energy and sustainability
- Environment and agrifood
- School of management
- Manufacturing and materials
- Transport systems
- Water science

What I love about Cranfield is that it's small enough to feel like a community, but big enough to offer a wide range of courses and opportunities. Plus, the location is perfect - just an hour away from London, so you can easily explore the city on weekends or after classes.

As a student ambassador, I'm always excited to meet new students and help them navigate university life. If you're thinking of joining us at Cranfield, I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have!

So, if you're looking for a friendly and welcoming community, great courses, and a fantastic location - come join us at Cranfield! Let's make some unforgettable memories together!

Hi Lucie,
What are the top three tips or any other advice you wish you had known before you started that you think would be helpful to international students arriving on campus?
Hi @SS378!

That is a very nice question. I have couple things in mind. Maybe it is not going to be exactly three

1.

There are plenty of well-paid work opportunities at our university, and those positions themselves help students with their experience and improve their CV

2.

Also, many nice opportunities to find a job in Milton Keynes or Bedford

3.

Opportunity to become a diversity ambassador representing our university

4.

Wonderful student support team, who is always supporting students when they need to (because let's n be honest, we all go through challenges...each of us unique but still...)

Additionally, I would also recommend for students that are coming straight from their country to do ASAP:

1.

get their NIN (National insurance number)

2.

open an UK bank account

I hope this answers your question.

Have a great day

Lucie, thanks for sharing such valuable information. You mentioned some important points and I am sure this will be helpful to other international students regardless of institution. Your #3 reminded me about how important it is for international students from non-native English speaking countries to proactively use every opportunity to practice English. It's also good to join clubs/sports/volunteer activities to make friends and learn about the cultural nuances. This will not only enhance the university experience, but also be helpful for international students choosing to stay and work in the UK.

Congratulations on getting accepted into the program! Please tell us more about your concerns? Are you worried about the job market for job for aerospace grads or is there another issue? Maybe you could reach out by email or phone to the aerospace department and find out where recent graduates have found employment? You could also email the career center as well to get general feedback on employment options. In my opinion, given the technical background required for your program, you should have a really wide range of employment options both inside and outside the aerospace industry.
