Re-do GDL?

Hello,

I got my GDL results and I'm really sad about them: I received an overall grade of 57%, I was aiming for the Bar Course after in September so obviously it's not in my options at this point. I want to redo another GDL to improve my grades, I know I can, cause I got so much personal troubles this year (and I got two grades at 68%). What do you think? Do you know if I can redo it at the same provider and if so, would I be able to redo only the courses where I want to improve? I'm really disappointed cause I got a First for my bachelor's, a distinction for my master and I went to big universities so I really don't want this GDL to jeopardize my chances to qualify at the Bar..

This is definitely a conversation to have with the course provider rather than the TSR but I wanted to query whether you've exhausted all routes of appeal on the current grades you have. You mention personal troubles, did you put in mitigating circumstances?

Generally, if there's a massive disparity between your previous academic performance and the GDL grade, you can explain it on any application for the Bar Course/pupillage apps. The GDL is definitely more a tick box exercise than a demonstration of academic rigour, so I personally wouldn't spend more money redoing it.

Get some experience on your CV, do some mooting, join an Inn and participate in a mentoring scheme but be prepared for those questions about what happened during that year.
