I set up a repayment plan for overpayment: will future loans still be impacted?

I had an overpayment of student finance that I’ve set up a small monthly instalment plan to pay back monthly. I am due to return to study in 2024/25, and have already had an application for student finance approved. However, bearing in mind that I will not have paid back the full overpayment by then, will my 2024/25 finance still be reduced to pay for it?

Hi there,

It will state on your entitlement letter if there is any deductions for your overpayment.

Thanks,
Ross

The entitlement on my approved application states no deductions. Is this then likely not to change, and I can start budgeting based on the payments it says I will receive?

Hi jbedford2001,

If there is still an outstanding overpayment balance, it will be removed from your future payments. If you are paying this off, it will just be whichever is left to pay that will be clawed back from your payments.

Thanks, Clare

But I have an approved application for 2024/25 which does not state any deductions. Having so means I would not be eligible to make a hardship application as per 5.1 “Student must have an approved application for the current Academic Year which has an overpayment being deducted from their funding”. I do not. l also believe overpayment policy states it “may” be deducted from future payments. Should I believe my current entitlement letter? Surely if I were to be deducted payments my entitlement would say so, no?

Hi there, it would show under the entitlement letter of any deductions being removed from the next academic year. If you contact us on 0300 100 0607 or via the live chat in your account we can check and assist with any other questions. Thanks, Jason
