Higher Education

I received my certificate of higher education in the post meaning I failed my second year and cannot get into final year, but I was discussing with my course director about repeating the year. I also have the option to go to a technical college and do a two year course in applied sciences and get an apprenticeship immediately afterwards. I don't know what to pick because there are pros and cons to either option and both will hopefully get me to where I need to be. I have no idea who to talk to and discuss this with so any advice would be really appreciated.

Hi there @emiisxn ,

I'm sorry to hear about this and can appreciate it may be quite worrying.

I would do with what your heart is leaning more towards! Depending on whether you found University easy to get through - that is an option but then again it is not everyone's ballgame and its completely understandable.

Maybe having a new experience might be a positive change for you too? It would allow you to reach your end goal but you may pick up multiple new skills through that journey too, it's always something to think about.

Although it may be difficult to speak to family/friends around, I would try to have a chat with someone you can trust or even your Personal Tutor/Academics at University to brainstorm the possibilities and see what is available. Furthermore, reaching out to the Technical College and speaking to a member of the Admissions staff there could allow you to gain a better understanding of what they could offer you.

Best of luck with everything 🙂

Hi, dont be worrying no ones path is the same!
Consider talking to a career advisor at your university or the technical college. They can help clarify what each option would look like in practice and may offer insights about job prospects.
If you’re still interested in your current university program and feel that completing the degree could open doors for you, repeating the year could be a good choice.
