Full time HNC or Foundation degree with previous study

Hi there i wanted to return to education and start either a full time HNC/HND and then do a top-up degree or a 2 year foundation degree and then a top-up. I have received student finance previously which is broken down below so wanted to know if i can receive student finance or not. Or do i have no choice but to do it part time.

I have started 2 previous Full time courses and 1 Part time course please see the breakdown below;

1) Full time undergraduate degree with Fd. Year (4 Year course):

I received 1/3rd of the first year of student finance tuition and maintenance for this before I withdrew.

2) Full time Foundation degree (2 year course)

I recieved one full year of student finance tuition and maintenance for this.

3) Part time Bsc 60 credits per year (4 year course)

I received one year of this part time degree.

Would really appreciate if you could help me with this.

Hi Idmwyt,

Your new HNC/HND course eligibility would be dependent on the duration of the course, as the previous study calculation is the course length+1 year - previous study years = remaining years. If you can confirm the duration, we will be able to confirm the calculation for you.

If you had compelling personal reasons as to why you were unable to complete the previous course, you can provide evidence such as a letter from a 3rd party professional that confirms what happened, when this happened and how this directly impacted your studies. If accepted, the Tuition Fee Loan would be allocated to the first available where required, as it is only the Tuition Fee Loan that is affected by your previous study as long as you don't hold an equal level qualification.

Thanks, Clare

Hi really appreciate the swift response, so the three courses im thinking of applying onto are;

1) Bsc Computing full time 3 years
2) HNC Computing 1 year full time (then second year HND and year after that a top up degree)

Or
3) Fd degree Computing (2 years full time) then 1 year up degree after that

Hi Idmwyt,

As previously mentioned, the previous study calculation is the course length+1 year - previous study years = remaining years

That would mean that the first course you mentioned would be 3+1-3=1 year, the other courses would be zero years left, meaning you would need to self fund all years for the Tuition Fees unless you study the computing courses part time or you can provide evidence of your Compelling Personal Reasons.

Thanks, Clare
