Lnat gyg

Hey guys!

I’m currently an aspiring law student who has just finished their AS levels in Math, Literature, Biology and History (awaiting grades in August, will update) and going on to year 13 next year. I am hoping to apply to Oxford, KCL, LSE, Queen Mary and Manchester, however I may reconsider my LSE choice. 3 out of 5 of these universities require the LNAT, so I decided to keep this gyg as a way to see my progress! I am hoping to give my Lnat end of sept/beginning of oct.

I have currently done 5 tests, 3 on Arbitio (yes i got the subscription) which my scores were 17, 18 and 20, and 2 from the Ultimate Lnat Collection book which my scores were 34 and 33. My book, however, is the 2020 edition so could anyone pls let me know if it’s even useful for a 2024 examination! I’m also trying to not get disheartened by Arbitio since im aware it is considerably harder than the real test?

I haven’t started prepping for the essay section yet but I am quite strong with writing thanks to my A-level choices but am currently focusing on the MCQ since I know that will be that hardest part of the whole LNAT for me.

Stick around for updates and my fellow LNAT students, pls drop any advice and hope to see you all as successful law students soon

UPDATE 1:

First LNAT update. I have done 3 more past papers in my lnat book and these are my following scores: 31, 32, 36. Overall, feelinga little more confident about the exam and the question styles are feeling much more familiar. So that’s good. I’ve decided to keepArbitio for mostly end Aug/beginning Sep revision as they are much more advanced. Hope everyone is having a good summer -how are you feeling about results day soon? Good luck to everyone!

UPDATE 2:

I have been not so productive the past few days since some family things came up, only did two tests and got these scores: 37, 34.

So close to results day now…..

This is irrelevant to what you’re talking about, but I wanted to ask. I’m starting Y12 next year and I am planning on doing Biology, Chemistry, History and Politics, and since you also did half stem and half arts subjects, could you tell me what the work load was like?

I’m also doing the LNAT and have an aspiring law student gyg  I’m using The Complete LNAT Guide 2024 but I think the 2020 version should be fine. I scored 29 in both the tests in the book. I also scored 23 on the official LNAT practice test (first attempt sat in April) and 31 and 32 on some other papers I found online. I only recently invested in Arbitio but so far my scores are 17/42, 20/42, 17/42 and 19/42. I’m hoping to get up to 25 on Arbitio by the end of August. I find that making a list of goals and tasks you want to complete week by week helps with organisation! I’m also applying to Manchester as well as Cambridge, Bristol, Leeds and Nottingham. Good luck with your LNAT preparation!

Hi there, sure, I'll explain in detail.

I do think taking half art and half stem was a good approach towards A-levels, since the skills required for each subject
balanced out. For example, the only way you can study for Math and Biology (and for you Chem) will be maximizing the
amount of past papers you can complete - this isn't the same for History and Lit (for you Politics), where you must sit
down and really learn information before writing an essay. Hence, nothing felt too excessive, as in an overload of past
papers or an overload of essays. However, my experience with Literature was not great since I basically did not get any
teacher support and had to self study the whole course, and because of that, I had to take away some time from Bio and
Math past paper practice at the beginning of the year. That was the main issue I found with the art/stem combo. However, if you’re choosing subjects you like a lot and are good at, then the art stem mix is actually quite fun and also offers much more diversity in your degree choices and allows you to develop more knowledge in different categories. So indeed, the workload is a lot, but I think it’s a little more pleasant than doing 4 subjects that are very similar. Hope that helps and good luck for year 12!

Thank you, that’s good to know! History, biology and chemistry are my favourite subjects, and politics is something I’ve always had an interest in studying, so I’m definitely excited! I hope your A-level exams go well and that your bad experience with your English Literature teachers doesn’t impact them too much.

Thanks! And that’s great you’re doing subjects you love. All four I chose are all my favourites too haha, though I wish I took politics too since it’s one of my biggest interests. Good luck for the future, I know you’ll do great
