Top tips for Clearing 2024

Hi everyone 😊

As A-level results day is coming up on Thursday 15 August 2024, we wanted to share with you some top tips to help you prepare for Clearing 2024.

But first, what is Clearing?🤔
Clearing is a chance for you to secure a university place that you didn't initially apply for. It's generally used by applicants who've received their exam results, but don’t yet have a university place to find suitable vacancies on university courses.

Top tips
1) Do your research - Make a list of the courses and universities you want to enquiry about and write their clearing phone numbers down and when lines open, this information can be found on the university website. Doing this will make it much easier for you on the day.

2) Be prepared - On results day make sure you have details of your qualifications to hand as you will be asked for them. It's also really useful to have your full name, address, date of birth and UCAS ID (if you have one) to hand. Keep a pen and piece of paper near you in case you think of any questions to ask or there's specific information you need to write down.

3) Call early - Once you have your results, start calling universities you are interested in. Most lines are open from 8am on results day and places are limited so call as soon as possible.

4) Consider contact options - Calling up a university is the most common way to get a clearing place but there are other ways to reach out. Here at UCLan we have an online application form which you can submit and also on results day our live chat will be available where you can chat directly with our clearing team.

5) Consider other routes - During clearing, you may need to look at alternative courses or universities that weren't part of your plan. Don't rush into a decision but try to be open-minded and consider other options that may be available based on your interests.

6) Look after yourself - It's even more important during stressful situations to take care of yourself. This will best help you navigate Clearing on results day. Make sure you are getting enough rest and keeping up with routines that support your wellbeing.

We wish you best of luck with getting your results and we know it can be hard but try not to worry and keep connected with family and friends who can support you during this time. Remember that your results won't define your life forever even if it feels this way right now. This is only the start of your journey.

Whether your grades are different than expected, or you didn’t submit an application are considering coming to UCLan this September, give our friendly Clearing team a call to discover your options on: 01772 830 777

Hey everyone!

I actually went through clearing to get into university so I know how it feels! My best tips are:

Stay calm - everyone on the phones is super friendly and are there to guide you through the process.

Have everything to hand - have all of your details such as your UCAS ID number, exact qualifications and all of your personal details to make it as smooth as possible on the phone.

Prepare in advance - this is something I wish I had done to make it less stressful! Have a look at what courses you might be interested in and different universities

Get excited - If you get an offer - congratulations! It's a super exciting time and it's time to get excited about going to uni!
I hope this helps and best of luck to everyone on results day!
