Hmmm interesting - most med schools accept gcse resits and they aren’t a disadvantage from personal experience. Your UCAT is very high so definitely good for UCL, not too sure but Imperial and how they view GCSEs, overall your GCSEs are strong but I’m not sure abt the resits. Have you considered emailed them? Also out of curiosity are you considering Oxbridge?

Thank you!
I have emailed them and they responded with the same statement listed on their website so not very helpful. I am considering Cambridge but I may not apply cause it’s a bit risky yk

Neither UCL nor Imperiall accept resits so your cooked
Neither UCL nor Imperial score GCSEs and both accept resits for GCSEs to meet their minimum requirements in English language and/or maths as far as I am aware.

So yes it's as possible as anyone else applying there meeting the standards.

Yeah they accept gcse resits ONLY to meet their minimum requirements, if OP had already met minimum requirements before resits then the resits will not be accepted so he will automatically be rejected from what I understand.

This is how I understood it also, may be wrong though. Is there any way OP could enter original GCSE grades without resits I wonder, anyone have knowledge of this? Without the resits the requirements would still be satisfied so Im not really sure how much they add to the application as worst case scenario OP got 999888777UUU which is still more than half 7-9 and so would meet the requirements provided they got a 6 in English and maths (UCL) or 7s in Maths and sciences (imperial) before the resits.

Do you have a source stating this from both medical schools? Because I haven't seen anything saying applicants with GCSE resits other than to meet the minimum requirements will be automatically rejected...?

Yh on imperial website it says they don’t accept gcse resits. And on the UCL one it says the only allow resits if it’s to meet the minimum entry requirements. On ucas, from what I know you have to list ALL your grades, so it’s common sense to assume that OP will be rejected if he/she has resat some subjects when it is clearly stated that resits are not allowed for medicine.

Yes this is stated on the unis sites for med requirements- is there any way that OP could not include this resits on UCAS do you know?

Can you provide a link? As I don't see it saying anything about GCSE resits for medicine on the Imperial medicine pages that I could find.

The UCL page here: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/medical-school/study/undergraduate/mbbs-admissions/entry-requirements

Only says "Candidates may re-sit GCSE subjects in order to meet the GCSE requirements. Graduates who re-sat A levels before their degree will also be considered. Otherwise, we do not accept qualification re-sits, including re-starting Year 12.". It does not as far as I can see that it elaborates on whether they would simply reject applicants with other GCSE resits or if they would just ignore the GCSE resits otherwise. Since UCL don't score GCSEs at all I would be surprised if they would expend that much effort for students resitting something they don't care about beyond the English and maths requirements.

Likewise this page: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/medical-school/study/undergraduate/mbbs-admissions/entry-requirements/2025-entry

Only says applicants may resit to meet the minimum grade requirements for GCSEs laid out previously.

I think suggesting that they would be automatically rejected is a significant conclusion to draw from that.

As above, I don't think it's actually stated they would be rejected for this.

Also no, it is mandatory to list all attempted qualifications, including resits and original attempts, in your UCAS application. UCAS specifically state this and I believe you actually agree that you have done so when you send off the application. Failure to do so can lead to the application being marked as fraudulent by UCAS, and any offers made can be nullified by the universities making them at will, and UCAS itself can exclude you from not only that year's application cycle but future application cycles.

Thanks for the info, im unsure also if it would lead to rejection as it’s not mentioned specifically. I think OP should try contacting the unis and see what they say about the situation specifically
