The Student Room Group

how is household income determined for maintenance loan (are siblings included)

was going to apply for the minimum maintenance loan, but want a little more savings for the future. my household income from parents side isn't likely to change, however, 1 of my older siblings (who lives with me at home with my parents) may get a job. would I need to include this when applying for the loan, and what if he gets a job by September or later, would I need to adjust the application or tell student finance that my household income has changed.

main thing I'm asking I guess is does a sibling who you live with at home affect household income when applying for higher maintenance loan or is it just parents and yourself?
Hi there,

We only take your parent details into account. If your sibling is also studying then there would be a disregard used in the household income we use. Unless that sibling is financially dependant on your parents then you don't need to include any information of theirs. Thanks, Jason

thank you, just a quick follow up on the financially dependant statement. if my sibling is living with me and my parents and is therefore providing money for himself and the family would I then need to include them in the household income? (he is not in education and is working fulltime)

Hi there,

No you do not need to include your sibling in the household income.

Thanks, Drew
