Medicine Clearing - How does it work?

Hi there,

I am a current A-level student waiting nervously for results and just want to know how the clearing process works for Medicine, if things go the other way..

Do we have to call universities on Results Day? And would the universities still look at our UCAT score in order to make the decision or solely decide on academics? Do we get to know which unis will be in Clearing for Medicine on results day or before? As currently I can only see St. George's and Buckingham University for Medicine Clearing on UCAS.

If anyone could explain briefly how Medicine Clearing works, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

Hi, it's very tense for everybody waiting for results. But not long to go now ! Fingers crossed for you.

I think I replied ro this question on your other thread and the same info applies.

Clearing is not common for medicine. Although many people may sadly miss their grades and thus their offers, lots of medical schools have reserve lists or waiting lists of people they have already interviewed that they will call on first.

That doesn't mean to say that NO med schools will be in clearing. It depends on grade boundaries etc. Last year was a tough chemistry year in particular with a lot of people missing their grades and more spaces available.

SGUL buck the trend and tend to have a policy of going into clearing to mop up those with good grades who were unsuccessful at interview.

Keep a close eye on the clearing thread, be prepared for a quick turn around interview, and it is last years UCAT score that counts.
