A Guide to Clearing @ Salford 2024

First of all, what is clearing?

The UCAS Clearing process helps students find and apply for university course placements after exam results. If you don't get the grades you need, Clearing gives you the chance to secure a spot on another course at the same university, the same course at a different or a different course at a different university.

You can also apply for a university place directly through Clearing, even if you haven't already made an application this year.

Can I use Clearing?

One of the most common reasons for using Clearing is if you just miss out on the entry requirements for your firm and insurance choice offers.

There are other reasons, too:

You change your mind about your firm and insurance choices and wish to apply to a different course or university

You applied before 30 June but don’t have any offers

You only applied after 30 June you’ll be automatically entered into Clearing once you apply

When is Clearing 2024?

Clearing opens in early July each year, allowing you to search for available courses. Most applications through Clearing occur after exam results are published.

This year, A-level results day is on Thursday 15 August 2024. The last date for adding any Clearing choices is 21 October 2024. - bare in mind this is the latest date but different unis may close clearing applications earlier.

Keep in mind that any available spots in popular courses will fill up quickly, so don’t delay- if you are interested in a particular course we'd always recommend calling up on results day to ensure you can access the most options. You can find the full, up-to-date list of the courses we currently have available in Clearing for 2024 on our website here!

Top tips for Clearing at UoS:

You can only apply to clearing once you have received all of your final results. This includes both Level 2 (e.g GCSEs or Functional Skills etc) and Level 3 qualifications (e.g. A Levels, Level 3 BTECs and Access course etc)

⭐Before you call to apply through clearing, make sure you have all your results and relevant information in front of you. For example, if you applied to UCAS earlier in the year, have your UCAS ID number ready.

The University of Salford is unable to take applications through Clearing from international students who will require a student visa.

We do have a Clearing FAQ’s page for any queries you may have here, but you’re also welcome to drop any questions in this chat! If you have any specific questions regarding your own Clearing application please call our Clearing line on +44 (0)300 555 5030, as they are our Clearing experts.

We also offer an Early Access Club for Clearing here at Salford, where if you sign up (for free obviously!) you can receive more information and guidance on the process, as well as access to a priority access line. This is available to all, and only takes a minute to sign up for!

Just a reminder please make sure you are not sharing any personal application information on this chat - we'd love to hear about your experience but please remember that this a public forum.

Thanks,

Katie
