VLE stands for "virtual learning environment".

It's likely that York don't make their reading lists publicly available. You probably won't be given access to the VLE until your course has started.

Have you been told you need to do pre-reading? By whom?

If the university has told you to do pre-reading, then I'd expect a list to have been provided. But it seems rather early to have been told to do pre-reading, given that most people won't yet know for sure where they'll be studying.

Hey!! I'm gonna be studying biology too  pretty sure we don't have a reading list, I'm sure it said that everything we need will be given to us when we start the different modules, and individual lecturers will give us names of things to read if they think it's necessary

Hi there,

Congratulations on your offer to study Biology at York! We can't wait to welcome you on campus this September!

I actually studied Biology here at York (I graduated in 2022) and I don't recall there being a reading list for the summer before starting my degree. But, I'd recommend contacting Richard Waites, the Director for Students ([email protected]) to ask him directly if there's anything he'd recommend reading before starting in September. You could try emailing the general biology reception email ([email protected]) as well because they will be able to pass your request on to the right person.

Personally, as someone who also had a gap year before starting my degree, I'd recommend reading through your biology notes from sixth form / college if you still have them, as that should give you a good refresher.

I hope this helps - Hannah 🙂

if you haven’t been explicitly told to do pre-reading, you won’t be given a reading list. i would suggest looking at the modules you’ll be studying online and trying to find information online, i think that’s your best bet at getting a slight jump on your learning !
