How does student finance funding work

I studied pharmacy for 1 year then changed course to accounting and finance. I have just failed 2 modules that I will have to resit without progressing to my 3rd and final year. Will I get student finance funding for this next year and then have to pay out my pocket for the final year of the course?

Hi there,

Are you resitting these modules as a full-time student? Are you being charged tuition fees for this?

Thanks, Graeme

I’m not sure as results will not be released for another week or two. Just wanted to ask as I feel I didn’t do well on the supplementary exams.
Hi there,

You would need to see if the university would class you as a student in attendance or not. If you have already used your additional year of funding then we would not pay for your repeat year for a Tuition Fee Loan.

Thanks, Drew

They said that I will have to retake three modules with attendance. So will I have to pay full £9250 in tuition fees for the year?
Hi there,

If you have already used your additional year of funding and that is what they are charging you for the Tuition Fee Loan then yes that is what you will have to pay.

Thanks, Drew

Will I still be able to apply for maintenance loan? Also do I have to pay the tuition fee before the start of the year in full?
Hi there,

Yes you can still apply for the Maintenance Loan and you will need to speak to the university to see how they will want the Tuition Fee Loan paid.

Thanks, Drew

Thank you I appreciate your help. One last thing is maintenance loan given before the start of the academic year?
Hi there,

No its not. It is paid paid in 3 instalments over the academic year.

Thanks, Drew

Sorry I meant is the first payment of the three given before the start of the academic year?
Hi there,

The payment dates are based on the term dates provided by the university so that should mean your 1st payment should be on the 1st day of the academic year.

Thanks, Drew
