clearing

how lenient are russell group unis when it comes to grades considering your course isn’t very popular (theology and religion)?? maybe specifically uni of notts?
It depends on the results of other offer holders this year, so it’s not really possible to estimate accurately.

That said, the lower the standard offer, the more likely they are typically a bit flexible on results day.

what if they’ve reduced their original offer for clearing like nottingham went from ABB to BBC for clearing! does this mean they could be more lenient if i’m a couple grades below their BBC? ofc i’m not sure yet because i’d have to wait for results day

It might suggest that they could be lenient, yes. Most unis will want to take ‘near miss’ applicants from the main cycle rather than clearing students, (who tend to be less well prepared and drop out more frequently).

It all boils down to how close you are and how much space they have.

when i went through clearing years back they just asked me for my grades and which subjects, they don't care of anything else, they're trying to fill seats and make money

no

So they’ve already dropped their requirements by 2 grades and you think they might accept even lower? That’s very unlikely

Hi, I just wanted to find out that if a course is in clearing in August. For example clearing grades AAB and you already hold an offer for UON for a different course, which it be possible to switch to the clearing course if you had grades lower than AAB for the clearing course. For example grades ABC.

Hello @ja1izo !

It really depends on your case. That is to say, your results, the grades of other offer holders, and so forth.

My suggestion is to go straight to the clearing website (Clearing) when you receive your results to see if the course have places available, and then call the number present at the top of the link that I have attached to the post. In the event that you already have your results, it would be preferable to ring them as soon as possible.

Do not hesitate to contact us in case you have any further queries.

I hope it helps!
Abián.

If you want your firm to consider you for alternative courses if you miss the grades for your firm choice then you don’t need clearing for that.

Phone them and explain that you want a note added to your application for confirmation about alternative courses and ask how best to notify them of that.

Hi @ja1izo

Great question!

Each university could be different, but typically we'd suggest that you call with your exam results and Clearing number to hand, and then be prepared to answer some informal questions about why you would like to study the degree and why you'd like to study it at that university. It's generally just so that the university can get a feel for you, so it's nothing to be too nervous about.

It's important to remember that the call is as much for you to get to know the university, as it is for the university to get to know you. Feel free to make a little list of questions so that you can fall back on these if you find that the Clearing adviser hasn't already answered them. You may be interested in hearing about accommodation, term start dates etc, if you don't already know this information.

Best of luck for results day!

Again, just noting that it looks like the OP wants to swap course at an existing choice so doesn't need to use clearing.

Hi @ja1izo !

As it has been pointed out in this thread, your best bet is to compose yourself and gather up all of your results and personal information so that you have everything that you might need at hand

The university will have call centres operating to deal with with the number of calls they are expecting and even if you might have to wait in a queue, but rest assured that this is the quickest way to get the information you need. You might end up speaking to admissions, support staff, or a student ambassador like me.

I hope it helps,
Abián.
